Getting to Know Me

A couple of years ago, as I approached my 60th birthday, I found myself reflecting more often on how I wanted to spend the next 20-25 years of my life (God willing). I jokingly refer to it as my 4th quarter. I knew I wanted to feel good, travel, try new things, and embrace each day with more joy and energy. So, I first embarked on a personal journey toward wellness, losing 70 pounds through a mix of grit, Pilates, and some (reluctant) diet changes. Was it easy? Nope. But I’ve learned that chasing goals and finding strength in persistence can do wonders.

The last couple of years have brought significant challenges as I made my way on my wellness journey, which honestly tested my willpower and tenacity. As my parents' health needs increased, I found myself wearing multiple hats—daughter, medical advocate, financial guardian (POA), you name it. My father’s sudden passing and my mother’s decline into memory care were stark reminders of just how precious each day is. And then, just to keep things interesting, I found out I carry the ApoE4 gene variant, which put me on a mission to understand all I could about brain health and Alzheimer’s prevention! I cope by researching, diving into a sea of information on dementia, brain health, and wellness tips—anything to give me a sense of proactive purpose (and let’s face it, control, I’m a control freak).

This blog is a creative outlet for me (keeping my brain active!) and my way of sharing the journey: the insights, the “aha!” moments, and the laughs that help keep it all manageable. We will have some fun too, it’s not all about Alzheimer’s, I promise!  Together we’ll look at aging with intention and purpose.  We’ll dive into the gritty (hello, post-menopausal skincare and RBF!) and the fun (ie, travel bucket lists and favorite recipes). From wellness boosters, gut health tips, brain-healthy foods, to battling the mystery of "inflammaging," I want this space to be a practical and fun guide for thriving in our 60’s and beyond.

Here, we’ll celebrate our victories and learn from our setbacks—together. I hope you’ll share your stories with me too. Let’s connect, laugh, learn, and grow as we navigate this fourth quarter with humor, heart, and curiosity.

Thank you for being here. Let’s curate this incredible journey together—RBF, bucket list, ApoE4, and oh so much more!

Stay curious friends!
